We propose to sail through the west of Tenerife where you can see the impressive Muralla del Infierno (Hell’s Wall); before the Spanish conquest in the 15th century, the now called Acantilados de Los Gigantes were called ‘La muralla del infierno’. The reason? its striking geography of dark lava that, for our ancestors, signalled the end of the world. This basaltic volcanic geological feature is located between the municipalities of Buenavista del Norte and Santiago del Teide. It also forms part of the Teno Rural Park and is one of the most visited places on the island, after the Teide National Park.
The Cliffs of Los Gigantes are characterised by their non-uniform side walls as a result of the traces of erosion and retreat. They fall over the ocean and reach a height of 300 to 600 metres. On the other hand, it is one of the few places where you can see pairs of guinchos (or ospreys), Canary Island birds of prey that nest on the cliffs. Some caves excavated by the erosion of the sea can also be seen in this area.
